Her formal cooking and homemaking classes began in New Delhi in 1955, and her award-winning Mrs Balbir Singh’s Indian Cookery book, was first published in London in 1961 to much acclaim and inspired future generations of Indian chefs and cookery authors. Over its 200 pages, Singh gives precise instructions on how to cook the North Indian and Central Asian staples she had learned from her mother. I’m excited to have started a company that celebrates and I hope builds on her amazing achievements. Born in 1912 in Punjab, Mrs Balbir Singh was a beloved and celebrated author and chef of the early 20th century. My grandmother Mrs Balbir Singh was a pioneering female-force in both the teaching and writing of the art of Indian cookery.
